Georgian Bay, ON - John Elder

My Watermark is my cottage island on Georgian Bay, ON.

One year I was walking across the ice, and the snow, and along came a pick-up truck. The ice was thick at the time of the year, about two feet thick. So he stopped and asked me if I would like I ride.

I was halfway to my cottage so I turn and say to him, “I’m going over to that cottage in the narrows” and he says “well I’m going to the fishing huts.” So I asked him if he could give me a ride part way, and he agreed. So I get in the pick-up truck and we start driving alone.

As we’re driving I asked him how the fishing is going since he’s going to the fishing hut, and he says, “I don’t know.” I said, “what do you mean?…you just came from the fishing hut” and he said “no no ..I’m going to the fishing huts to deliver some pizza and beer.”

So I got a ride with the pizza delivery guy, part way across the ice.
