Lake Huron, ON - Rahima S.

When I was young at the beach, I swam for hours. I remember being buried under the sand, the sun shining down bright on my face. I liked to challenge my siblings to find pretty rocks. Not only that, but I remember splashing all of my family members and friends. Looking at the “never ending” water, I always thought about how deep the water really was. How far could it go?

When I was young at the beach, I remember feeling the sandy wet floors while changing. I would brush my wet, thick, long black hair. Then, I would smell the enticing smoke from barbecues nearby, craving crispy grilled chicken. To this day, I can hear the loud chewing of my sister eating crispy fries.

When I was young at the beach, I felt so happy. The thought of being surrounded by family and friends, made me always have a bright smile on my face. I would wonder how deep the beautiful blue water could go, I used to stand on my tippy toes. Although I felt scared of the water at some points, at the same time I felt safe. My thoughts, just running through my head, while I would float away in silence.

At the lake, I was known for taking huge risks. For our dares in the game of “Truth or Dare” I would always climb the 2 feet docks. Sometimes, it would be with one of my good childhood friends. We would walk to the edge carefully to make sure not to slip. I will always remember our screams right before we jumped in.
