Lake Huron, ON - Michael H.

A few years ago, we had just done something together with our cousins. My mom had taken my brothers to get dress shoes for school and I went back to the cottage with my cousin Alecia and my dad. I noticed some rain on the way back to the cottage. We went inside the cottage and decided to watch a movie. I think it was Back to the Future, but it isn’t important for the story.

When the movie finished I decided to go out onto the screen porch, overlooking the Bay and decided to watch the boats go by. At this point the rain had picked up quite a bit. As I was watching it, it slowly started coming down faster and faster, as if it detected my presence. It came down in what felt like sheets. It got to the point where we could barely see the other side of the lake. The lake was almost completely empty with only one boat. The floor by the screen at this point was completely soaked. The sound it made on the trees and the roof was incredible. It was sort of like a waterfall but all around you.

By this point I was wondering where my brothers were. They were still shopping but apparently the downtown was flooded as I saw when they showed me pictures later. In the end we all got this amazing experience and they got their dress shoes. This heavy rain didn’t last for very long. After about five minutes it slowly started dying down, and the sky began to clear.

It would have been easy to miss and I was lucky I caught it. I think I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.
