Lake Huron, ON - Zoe S

When I was young at the lake, I would run so fast to find the perfect spot right by the water. I would see people and umbrellas and even some dogs. I remember naming sizes of waves different names and running into the water no matter how cold it was. I would chase seagulls away, but sometimes I would feed them. My brother and mom would make different types of sculptures, while I would make a big sandcastle with a moat around it. When the waves got bigger, me, my brother, and sometimes my cousins would run into the water with our boogie boards that were connected to our wrists. We would jump and splash and try to stand on them like surfboards.

When I was young at the lake, I would walk with my family to the big lighthouse. While doing so, we would collect rocks and later tumble them, and they would turn into shiny, colourful crystals. My family and I would walk around the small town nearby. I remember
smelling sunscreen and lotions and food. We would pick a restaurant that was right by the lake. I could hear kids laughing and waves splashing while watching the sun go down. I could smell the fresh summer air and could feel the hot sun rays against my skin. There was always a nice breeze by the water that felt cool after a long hot day in the sun.

When I was young at the lake, I always felt excited. The swimming and laughter and memories always made me happy. I used to pretend I was a mermaid and flutter my feet. My dad would also do so. We would press our hands on a rock and come out of the water as Ariel does in the movie. I remember always being excited to get saltwater taffy after a long day. I had so many favourite flavours, like cookie dough and chocolate, and even watermelon. Going to the lake always made me feel happy and excited, and sometimes even calm.

At the lake, I always rode my bike with my family to try to find new and cool spots. Riding my bike near the lake did lead to some scary events, but those made memories that I would never want to forget. I will always remember the time at the lake when the water was so cold that no one wanted to go in, but I was brave enough to face the iciness. I will never forget skipping rocks against the water and seeing who could get the farthest. My dad always won those, but my brother was a close second. Maybe I will go to Lake Huron again sometime. Possibly, I will even explore a new lake or river or beach.
