Mud Creek, ON - Dale Taylor
My Watermark is Mud Creek, Ontario.
I grew up in the 1940s and 1950s along the Moore Park Ravine in Toronto. When I was a kid, my friends and I were often down in the ravine making forts and playing games. Often, the most fun was just exploring.
The memories are etched in my mind because of water: the little creek running through the ravine bottom was the Mud Creek, though we didn't know its name. The creek had little minnows in it. But best of all was the gurgling sound it made here and there as it flowed along its stony bed. Whenever I want to recall my childhood's most enchanting moments, I only need to summon up that magical sound of a creek's gurgling waters.
