Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong - Donald Chan

My Watermark is Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong.

The most powerful memory of water in my life was in the summer of 2008. Our family and I was on vacation in Hong Kong. That summer was unbearably hot and windless. Temperatures reached 50 degrees celsius. It was then that we decided to go to a beach. Going to a beach in Kowloon, we saw the fresh water; free of pollution and the bright soft sand that was hotter than the environment we were in.

When we took a plunge into the sea, bliss overcame us. The cool waves crashed and pushed us apart. The sea was a wonderful thing on a hot summer like that. It filled me with joy as the coolness entered my body. The sea in Kowloon, my Watermark, will be forever engrained in my mind.
