Long Beach, BC - Charlotte Reid

I've always been drawn to the ocean, and aspired to learn to surf for years before I had the chance. When I learned that Vancouver Island's waters provided a perfect place to lean, I knew I had to visit. To this day, Tofino is one of the most stunning places I've ever visited and was instrumental in developing my passion for preserving nature for generations to come.

Long Beach is situated within Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and is surrounded towering old growth forest. It is home to turbulent weather that creates an almost mystical aura. Being out in the water, I was overwhelmed by both feelings of vulnerability and connection to nature. Surfing was exhilarating and everything I'd hoped for, however I was most surprised by how much mental clarity I gained by moments just spend floating on my board. Looking back at the shoreline, I had never felt smaller in the eyes of the universe. However I also felt safe and protected by the water and trees around me. It gave me a chance for meditation, reflection, and peaceful admiration of the landscape. I gained so much from being there and it opened new doors for me in how I connect to and interact with water.
