Pinery Provincial Park, ON - Josh K

When I was young at the beach, I remember carrying our supplies across the hot, rough, gritty sand searching for an open space to unpack. My mom applied the light, watery, cold sunscreen to our backs. The water was chilly and refreshing, and I invited my brothers to go far into the ocean where the ocean shock had made me gasp. I saw the unpredictable, massive, tall waves heading, I almost drowned. Somehow, I saw one of my brothers pulling me up, saving my life.

When I was young at the beach, I was sitting on the soft, fluffy, woolly camping chairs, savouring a salty bag of potato chips while watching the waves. Nearby I saw my brothers making a small hole using their smooth hands, to fill it with water. The sand felt mushy as we kept pouring the hard bucket full of water. We heard the water splashing in the hole but it just soaked through the sand. Although the hole was unsuccessful, we heard the sound of dinner, so we decided to abandon it and eat.

When I was young at the beach, I remember spending time with my family. It made me feel happy, overwhelmed with joy and thrilled, just to talk about how fun the beach is. I felt excited collecting smooth, gray, hard rocks for our campfire. I was always so curious about where the sand ended up here. Also, I was scared of getting a hot, red, itchy sunburn from staying in the ocean for too long. I was pretty sad when we had to change and wash up because the ocean was a comfort zone for me.

At the beach, I remember collecting hard, gray, polished rocks and skipping them across the water with my family. We created a challenge to see who could skip the stone the farthest. It was always my tall, muscular, young dad and my goal was to beat his record of five. Next I wanted to build sand castles because I loved the texture of compacted, soaked, wet sand. But somehow it always falls apart so, I would like to build a tall, stable, and strong body sand castle. I will always remember to spend more time with my family and I know I want to go back and enjoy the chill, refreshing, breezy wind.
