Regina Beach, SK - Alia A
When I was young at the beach, I remember the car slowing down near the shore as me and my siblings jumped out before it even came to a stop. I raced towards the water, competing against my friends and siblings, as small fruit flies grazed my cheeks. Cool waves splashed at me as I cannonballed into the chilly water, hoping with all my might that I had won the race.
When I was young at the beach, I felt the scorching, blazing, hot sun bore down on my shoulders in suffocating heat as I sat on the warm sand near the bright, comforting, lukewarm water. I smelled the scent of beach water-crisp and clean and fresh-always filling the air around me. As I swam, I felt the warm water wrap around my skin, and whenever I felt the seaweed touch my feet, I would panic, convinced it was sharks. In the afternoon we would eat delicious, mouthwatering, smoky barbecue with family and friends.
When I was young at the beach, joy and happiness filled every moment. I would talk and laugh all day, playing in the water, my worries completely gone. I collected rocks and seashells as small treasures, memories I would not forget. I sometimes even gave them away as memories of me. I would admire the shimmering, shining, rays of light that danced on the water and I would always, always get annoyed when the seagulls tried to get our food.
At the beach, I will never forget the games we played that made us laugh until we cried. I will always remember walking along the soft, damp, warm sand, the water by my side, and especially the happiness on my family's faces when they were by the shore. Waking up early on beach days felt special, and even now, the sound of the waves brings back the joy of those carefree, amazing, happy moments.
