Quarry Lake is a small lake beneath the powerful mountains of Canmore, Alberta, yet she holds so much.

Once a quarry, her transformation into water feels like layers of healing, a place once carved from the earth now holding life, reflection and community.

I swim and train in her waters, gather women for swim experiences, share full moon swims with friends, and sometimes simply sit beside her.

Families, paddlers and swimmers each bring their own stories. She holds joy and grief, solitude and connection.

When I slow down, I see the mountains and trees reflected on her surface and the life surrounding her. I feel part of her story, and with that comes a responsibility to respect and care for her.
