Atlantic Ocean, NL - Eric Green

I'm from a place called François, Newfoundland. It's the most beautiful place in the world.

I grew up on the water but my most powerful memory of water was being born, when my poor old mother's water broke when she had me. That was the big one, during birth and that was the most important one for me anyway. Hopefully it was for her too.

I grew up around water because we lived 50 feet from the salt water. In Francois were I grew up it was all boats, so you cut your first teeth on the gunnel of a dory.

You're always off in a dory because you have nothing else to do, going out in the harbour, out in the bay, rolling around.

I thought it was a great childhood and I think growing up in out port Newfoundland, it gave we have today. And it makes you better people.
Parents were there, you didn't have parents going off working, the whole community raised you up, taught you life values. A lot of people, kids today don't get taught.

Water is important to me, salt water I make my living going to sea also fresh water is something we need. As I was telling my honourable friend there from Dublin, it's one of the natural sources in the world that we're losing so fast and people don't realize we're losing the water. Back where I come from the places where I used to play with boats is dry now and people should realize its a resource we shouldn't be flushing down through the toilets, and the sinks, and throwing away everyday. It's something that we need to survive.

Water for where I live in François, the only way to get out of there is by water, there's no roads and no cars there, water is a source of - one thing about water vs flying, if you engine breaks down and stops you're going to drift. Flying, you're not going to fall very far from the water. Water is very important to all of us, it should be important to all of us.

I guess not to the landlubbers but to us the seagull people it's pretty good.
