Lake Ontario, ON - Rowan C

I walked towards the end of the point with my friends and family. The water didn’t get very deep until a few hundred feet out. There was seaweed all along the rocks and I fell a few times. My feet were starting to get cut by the shells on the rocks but I wasn’t too bothered by it.

My family brought canoes to the edge of the point. They placed them in the water. My brother and I paddled out to a point where you couldn’t touch the ground. The waves out there were huge and filled my brother's and my canoes up to the point of sinking. We whisked out the water with our paddles. The waves swished beneath us and it felt like we were surfing. We were out on the water for so long that my skin started to wrinkle. We paddled back to the land and pulled our boats back onshore and the next group went out to paddle.

I walked around the shore with the sound of the waves crashing into the rocks. There was almost no noise other than the melody of the lake. My head was filled with peaceful murmurs. I swam into the lake. It took a while to finally reach a point where I couldn’t touch the bottom. Under the water, there was no sound at all. It was utter silence. There was a moment of stillness where I felt at peace with the world. Although I’ve only been there a few times, it made a great impact on my life and is somewhere I’ll remember forever.
