Erieau Beach, ON - Swapnil S
When I was young at the beach, I remember running onto the hot and sandy beach barefoot and being the first one there, deciding to quickly jump into the water to relieve me from the heat of the sand. It was a bad idea because the water was freezing. While waiting for my cousins | would hide coins under the sand wanting them to try to find the coins once they reached the beach. Once they reached the beach, I would give them clues every now and then when they had no idea where to look, but I realized I should have hidden something else under the sand. They had slipped deeper into the sand and we only retrieved half of the coins I dug.
When I was young at the beach, it felt like only us and the seagulls. Hundreds of seagulls would cover the whole beach and if we ever dropped a piece of food they would fly in, snatch it and escape before we could react. I remember when we would all run into the cold and dirty and rough water trying to take advantage of the time at the beach. The dads would try to relate and joke with the kids, but it never worked, and the kids would play a game that I created named "who can find the bigger wave."We would all line up with the water level a little bit under our shoulders, and wait for the waves to come. We could move left or right to try to catch the bigger wave and after the wave pushed us under, whoever stayed underwater the longest won.
When I was young at the beach, I felt a lot of different emotions. I remember the excitement of my first time at the beach with my cousins. I felt happy because there was a lot of salty and tasty and crunchy foods. I remember feeling annoyed because the rocks were so painful to step on while trying to get into the water. What I remember the most is feeling nervous because I thought the water would take me to the middle of the lake.
At the beach, I will always remember when the rough waves brought me underwater and I was so scared and worried and hopeless thinking I was going to drown. My dad came and saved me and we all laughed it off. I will always remember playing "who can find the bigger wave" and it was so so fun because I always won and I got an adrenaline rush when the water took me under, and then I would pop up once the water slowed.
