Lake Huron, ON - Enea M

When I was young, at the beach, all I wanted to do was swim. It was what I looked forward to most. As soon as I arrived, my eyes were fixated on the bright, clear, and shiny lake as the sun reflected onto the water. I was always impatient, I couldn’t wait to get into the lake running, I would immediately check the water temperature by dipping my toes into the water. It was always chilly in the beginning, but as the day went by, the sun warmed me up until the water felt just the perfect amount of refreshing. I remember how I would continuously ask my mother to accompany me in the water until it had bugged her so much she had no choice but go swim with me. For all I wanted was to swim. I was just afraid to go on my own.

When I was young at the beach, as soon as I took off my shoes, all I could feel was the soft, yet scorching hot sand making direct contact with my toes. As my feet touched the sand, I wondered how I was ever going to get used to the heat, then eventually forgetting the sensation within the next five minutes. I enjoyed burying myself into the sand, as my mother would wonder what I was doing, but at the same time she knew I was just having fun which brought her joy as well. As I ran into the refreshing water, the transition from the sand into the lake would always be uncomfortable as the sharp rocks would poke my feet and I would run as fast as possible to avoid the feeling. In the end, it had all been worth it when I got to swim with no limits.
When I was young at the beach, I remember the amount of pleasure I felt just from being there. In the water, I would continuously splash everywhere and all around me so that not only I would enjoy this experience. I loved sitting by the shore, letting waves splash me, writing on the sand,
waiting for the water to wash it away, and collecting every intriguing rock in my vision to start a collection. I would also make friends with every child in my vision. I remember how conversing, laughing, playing, helped me enjoy the whole experience. The company of others had always brought me joy, especially in one of the places I adored most.

When I was young at the beach, I enjoyed spending the day there, and always looked forward to admiring the sunset with my family. Near the end of my beach trip, I would sit in the sand, gazing at the warm toned sunset, with an ice cream cone in my hand that was way too big, although I had insisted that I would eat the whole thing. This part of my trip was always my favourite, the way the setting sun reflected onto the water with such a fascinating mixture of colours, as it would look different every time, along with the sound of my family's laughter. Moments like these were ones that I cherished the most, and were the ones in which I felt most connected with my loved ones. Bonding with my family brought me a sense of joy, and I'm sure they felt the same. These occasions are ones that are most memorable, as my family is incredibly important to me, and such moments bring us closer. These moments at the beach are ones that I am most grateful for.
