Lake Louise, AB - Lilac A

When I was young at the lake, I remember an ambitious, adventurous, outgoing me. As we were leaving Fairmont Chateau, I noticed that ahead, the people crowded together seemed to be fascinated, and so, curiosity got the better of me. I swiftly pushed past the crowd and looked forward. I felt a deep breath escape my mouth, awe striking me as the water glowed with an unearthly turquoise hue, scattering light into a soft, downy, milky brilliance that holds the mountains' reflections in flawless stillness, as though time itself had paused to admire its own creation.

When I was young at the lake, I held my coloring book firmly as we ventured alongside the evergreen forests. The tour guide engaged us with interesting facts about the lake's ecosystem, pointing out the various types of fishes and animals. In my coloring book, I tried to replicate my perspective in drawing wavy lines of water and numerous stick trees for the forest. My senses were attuned to the breeze, bristling throughout the lakes shining waters, the forest's trees and atop the soaring mountains. Humming nature's peaceful harmony, the air carried a crystalline freshness, tinged with cool mountain clarity and aroma of pine resin and damp earth, filling my lungs with life. The lake seemed endlessly astonishing. Though warmed by summer light, the water remained icy and clear, tasting of minerals and leaving behind a sharp, mysterious, lingering chill.

When I was young at the lake, I felt the pine needles clinging onto my sun-tanned skin as we finished up our tour, and I took a moment to realize that its atmosphere brought a sort of ease into my being that entire time, continuously taming my wild side. Ever since my childhood days, the outdoors had served as a constant source of wonder, and this breathtaking landscape felt suspended in enchantment, where water and the sky conspired to blur out the line between dream and reality. When walking, I overheard my parents say how the people there did their best to keep Lake Louise's water clean and I began to feel a developing connection to the place one rooted in care, respect, and the shared responsibility of preserving something so naturally beautiful.

At the lake, I came to appreciate the value of water and committed myself to making a positive difference. I recalled how I used to berate my parents whenever they left the tap on, if they took a shower that lasted too long, or even if they hadn't finished drinking from their water bottles, and would go on lecturing them about how water is very important and that we had to conserve it. After that, I noticed the experience had carved itself into me one I knew I would never forget. Even years later, I carried that feeling with me, knowing that no matter what, when or where, every lake, including this one, deserved to be pristine, protected, and respected, and that through small, but meaningful actions, I could help defend what gives us life.
