Smoke Lake, ON - Beverly Harris

Bev Harris

It would be tough to choose because I have a lot of water bodies over the course of my life. There’s Georgian Bay, Lake Rosseau, Lake of Bays, now there’s Lake Ontario but I think if I had to pick I would pick Smoke Lake in Algonquin Park.

I think its representative of all the different times I’ve spent on water over the course of my life. I remember waking up - Smoke Lake has no power on it, I was staying at a friends cottage that has no propane and no flushable toilets. Ok just scratch that part. Anyways, it's very quiet on Smoke Lake, the motor boots are limited a very really motor and I woke up one morning with my daughter who was probably about 5 years old then. It was perfectly silent and out came a dippy boat and the dippy just came along going “put put put” it's a really unique little boat a wooden boat with a disappearing propeller that's why its called a dippy. That was just such a moving moment of how beautiful and peaceful and surrounded in love you feel when you’re near a body of water. Those are the kinds of memories I like.
