Thames River, ON - Dania A

When I was young at the river, it was a sunny, breezy autumn day and my sister wanted to go for a walk. To Spring Bank river somewhere we would always go as the three of us, my mom, my sister and me. This day was special unlike all the others because it was just us. We took photos, we walked around the river, watched the sunset and also ate barbecue. It was our favourite time to go as well, on a beautiful autumn day. I still remember running with my sister till our hearts burned out, while our mom laughed at us,timing us. We were enjoying the last time we were at that river all together.

When I was young at the river, I heard the birds chirping, people chatting and kids yelling and crying. I smelled flowers that were slowly disappearing. I remember eating barbecue with my mom and sister and tasting that tender juicy chicken. I felt the rocks and the leaves in my hand, some were crunchy and soft and the rocks were hard and tiny. It was the first park I visited, and it will always be my favourite one. I remember touching. I took photos throwing leaves up in the air in slow motion and walking through the bridge while listening to all the surrounding noises. When we fed geese and gave them bread, they were all circling as a big happy family wanting food and enjoying themselves. The Thames river is where I grew up.
When I was young at the river, I remember the joyful feeling when my sister said she wanted to go back. From the drive up I was happy to see all the beautiful, amazing colourful leaves. I would always be so excited to go back to such a beautiful place. I last visited with my mother, sister, and myself when I was eight years old. We did everything the way we always had. It's nice to think I will always have these memories with me and when, and I will always look back and think how much this place always gives me so much joy if I do ever go back one last time.

At the river, I will always remember my childhood and how it was like. I will always cherish those moments and especially the last time I went. That day was beautiful, it was long, it wasn't long in the boring way, it was peaceful and calming. It was nice when I think about it, that day was a beautiful breezy autumn day, but it was also sad because I didn't know it would be the last day and the last time I went it was with my sister. I didn't even know it, but when I did, it was sad, but also I was happy that the last time was with her and not anyone else. I will always think back of all my beautiful, loving and happy memories and always see all the photos and remember how the water looked. It was clear and I remember seeing the wind push the water but it was always sad to see the bits of garbage in a river. I will think of nostalgia and maybe someday I will go back with my mom, my sister and me but for now it will always be something I look back at and smile at.
