Walsh Lake, NWT - Matt Windle

Growing up in Yellowknife, my family had a cabin on a lake called Walsh Lake, about 20 minutes out of town. It’s really inspired me going there every weekend with the family, spending so much time on the water and fishing and all the recreational activities. I think it had a huge impact on my current career as aquatic biologist and all my interests, my motivations to take my family out. It was really formative.

Shout out to all the people in Yellowknife!

Literally almost every weekend I’d be out there, [the memories] kind of blend together after a while. There’s just so many memories, other people would be looking up at the sky or looking at the shore and I would always be pointed down, wondering what’s underneath the boat. I did so much snorkelling and kind of exploring that way too. Still as I go out for work in a boat, I’ll always be looking down in the water.

I think it had a huge impact on my current career as aquatic biologist and all my interests, my motivations to take my family out. It was really formative.
