Lake Nipissing, ON - Will M

My watermark is Lake Nipissing.

When I was young at Lake Nipissing I remember Blueberry Island. I thought I would see and eat a lot of blueberries, but Blueberry Island doesn’t have any blueberries! I did see lots of quartz and other crystals underwater. I heard all kinds of different types of birds chirping away. I felt lots of rocks to walk, climb, slide off of and relax on. We even jumped off the high rocks and into the water. As I breathed in through my nose I enjoyed the fresh air off the water and the splash of the cool water on my face!

When I was young at Lake Nipissing, we went to the creek next to our cottages where I saw lots of frogs, toads, fish, and turtles. I spent many of my days catching frogs and trying to avoid the snapping turtle. When I listened closley I could hear the bullfrogs singing their songs, and the boards of the old dock creaking. I could feel all the slimy fish and frogs that we caught in the creek. I kissed the first fish I caught, someone told me it would smell like peanut butter, and the slime tasted gross. As I ran away from all the hairy dock spiders, I had to dance around all the goose poop that littered the air.

When I was young at Lake Nipissing, we used to take a boat out on the water. I saw fish jump out of the water about 1 metre high when my friend and I were tubing! I could hear the waves splashing on the sides of the boat and the roar of the motor making us go faster. I reached down the side of the tube so I could feel the water rushing through my fingers. I could taste the water splash in my mouth. The air smelled like fresh air and gasoline fumes! I'll never forget how it felt nose diving into the water, flying over the wakes, and smashing our faces off the tube.

As I walk along the edge of the water, I can feel the sand between my toes and I can see the sun setting on the horizon. We eat s’mores around the campfire, telling stories of our days, and look up at the stars. The sky is full of stars that I never usually see living so close to a city. We watch for shooting stars until the fire fades and is just a small flicker. I never want these days to end. Until next year Lake Nipissing!
